Meckel's diverticulitis

Case contributed by Dr Praveen Jha

Acute pain in abdomen (right lumbar region)

Patient Data

Age: 25 Years
Gender: Female

Small intestinal obstruction was seen, with an enhacing band-like structure in right lumbar region, at the site of transition from dilated ileum to non-dilated ileum. It appeared to arise from ileal loop itself, and encircling the small bowel.

Case Discussion

Possibility of adhesive intestinal obstruction vs Meckel's diverticulitis was considered. Diagnostic laparoscopy was advised

Final diagnosis: Gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum forming a band along small bowel.
