Presentation

Failure of passing meconium associated with bilious vomiting.

Age: 3 days
Gender: Male

Right lumbar region well defined anteriorly located intra-abdominal calcified wall cystic lesion (giving eggshell appearance) of about (27x7x12 mm) in its various dimensions seen in relation to the inferior surface of the liver. This is associated with multiple dilated small intestinal loops.

Case Discussion

Meconium peritonitis is due to intrauterine bowel perforation. Causes of intrauterine bowel perforation are mainly due to atresia or meconium ileus.

In this case, meconium peritonitis was due to jejunoileal atresia complicated by cystic type of meconium peritonitis, which was managed surgically.
