Medial canal fibrosis

Presentation

History of offensive left ear discharge. On examination, there is an abnormally swollen canal with polypoidal tissue

Patient Data

Age: 85 years
Gender: Female

There is a crescentic band of soft tissue filling the left medial external auditory canal and abutting the tympanic membrane, with a lateral extension mainly along the roof and posterior wall of the canal. There are no osseous erosions of the underlying bones.

There is normal pneumatization of the left mastoid air cells and middle ear cavity with normal appearance of the bony ossicles, scutum and tegmen tympani. 

There are osteoarthritis changes of the left TMJ.

Case Discussion

CT findings are consistent with medial canal fibrosis.
