Case Discussion

Biopsy of this lesion proved it to be melioidosis, which is an infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. 

The lung is the most commonly affected organ. Despite the advent of new diagnostic techniques, chest radiographs are still useful in the diagnosis of melioidosis.

The radiological findings include multiple small pulmonary nodules due to hematogenous spread, and multilobar infiltrations that start at the upper lobes in acute pneumonia, which with rapid progression of disease, may result in cavity or abscess formation
