Left eye proptosis.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

Expansion, thickening, extensive sclerosis and hyperostosis involves the left sphenoid wing and to less extent the squamous portion of the temporal bone

Associated extra-osseous left intra-orbital small soft tissue component is seen near the orbital apex compressing and displacing the optic nerve medially.

Subsequent left proptosis is noted.

Case Discussion

Sphenoid wing meningioma is a meningioma that occurs near the sphenoid wing. "En plaque meningioma" represents a group of meningiomas known by its particular sheet-like dural involvement and its disproportionately large bone hyperostosis.

These tumors are mainly a bone disease, as their symptoms and prognosis are influenced mostly by the extension of bone invasion instead of intradural involvement.
