Seizure and loss of consciousness.

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

MRI demonstrating extensive cortical and subcortical white matter and bilateral putaminal T2 FLAIR hyperintensity consistent with edema and putaminal hemorrhagic changes on T1 WI. There is peripheral rim of intense contrast enhancement in the subcortical and putaminal lesions.

Case Discussion

This patient has a history of alcohol consumption. Acute methanol poisoning is a rare intoxication, and the most characteristic MR findings are bilateral putaminal necrosis, with varying degrees of hemorrhage.
