Middle phalangeal avulsion fracture

Presentation

5th finger injury while playing cricket 10 days ago.

Patient Data

Age: 30-35 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Avulsed bone flake is noted overlying proximal interphalangeal joint. A donor site is noted at middle phalanx base. Central slip of extensor tendon is attached to avulsed bone flake. Two lateral slips of extensor tendon (radial as well as ulnar side) are intact.

Case Discussion

Plain radiograph (not uploaded) showed avulsion fracture base of middle phalanx. USG for referred for tendon evaluation.

Findings of avulsion fracture of middle phalanx base with intact central and lateral slips. 

If dorsal avulsion is noted at distal base, it is called as Mallet finger.
