Migration of intrauterine device

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Presented with history of bleeding per vaginum. Referred for an abdominal radiograph to locate IUD.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is an IUD on the right side of the pelvis. Its orientation is abnormal. There is no abnormal bowel gas pattern. There is no bony abnormality.

Ultrasonography was done for better localization of IUD. To check relation to uterus and adnexa.

There is an intrauterine live pregnancy of 6 weeks. It is associated with a small amount of subchorionic collection. Tiny echogenic foci in the subchorionic collection are probably air foci.

There is a linear echogenic structure (intrauterine contraceptive device) in the right adnexa, located cranial to the right tube-ovarian complex.

Case Discussion

The case shows migrated intrauterine device along with early intrauterine live pregnancy. Surgery was done for removal of IUCD. There was no uterine perforation.
