MRI artifact - dental braces

Case contributed by Ian Bickle
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Persistent headache frontal bending forward makes it worse nasal sprasy and steam does not help .

Patient Data

Age: 16 years
Gender: Female
mri

Massive amount of susceptibility artifact anteriorly.

The visualized brain is normal in appearance.

Case Discussion

This demonstrates the profound amount of artifact on MRI from dental metalwork (in this case braces in an adolescent).

Observe how this is the most severe on the SWI, DWI and ADC sequences with the least on the T2 axial images on which the whole brain is adequately shown.
