Myositis ossificans

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

Patient Data

Age: 15
Gender: Male

There is laminated ossificaiton on the anterolateral surface of the mid-femur.  The adjacent cortex appears normal and there is no focal bony lucency.

The CT confirms the plain film findings with laminated ossification but a normal underlying bone.

The previously benign process on XR and CT starts to look very aggressive on MRI. But, this is the problem with myositis ossificans!
