Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Male
CT

Multiple, discrete, ring enhancing cystic lesions, most of them show an eccentric calcified nodule representing scolex and some of them show calcified cyst wall. The content within the cysts is hyperdense/hypodense/isodense to CSF representing different stages of neurocysticercosis.

Case Discussion

Extra-intestinal cysticercosis usually occurs as a result of eating food or drinking water contaminated by human feces containing T. solium eggs. This is distinct from the 'normal' life cycle in which the undercooked pork is eaten and the larval cysts contained within, mature into adult intestinal tapeworm.
