3 of the 24 markers are retained on day 3, located within the descending and sigmoid colon as well as rectum.

Normal colon transit time.
There are numerous variations in how a colonic transit study is conducted and how the findings are interpreted. In this case, 24 markers are ingested and abdominal x-rays taken 1, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours later. If 24 markers are used, then <5 rings should be present in five days.
