Normal MR renal angiogram

Case contributed by Dr Ian Bickle

Patient with resistant hypertension. Work up prior to renal denervation procedure.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

MRA (MIP) of normals kidneys, with a single artery to each kidney.  The other structure at the left hilum is venous contaminant.

Case Discussion

MRA or CTA of the kidneys may be performed in the pre-procedural assessment for renal denervation (ablation) procedures, as well as to assess for renal artery stenosis in hypertensive patients.

MRA has the clear advantage of non radiation exposure in what is often a young patient group.
