Two left renal veins are seen with the upper one being trapped and attenuated by the reduced aorto-mesenteric angle.

Nutcracker syndrome describes the symptomatic presentation of the entrapment of the left renal vein between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. The normal aorto-mesenteric angle is 38-65 degrees.
