On spine radiographs, there is multi level intervertebral disc calcification with disc space narrowing. Mild chondrocalcinosis also is noted at auricle and nasal cartilages.
Case Discussion
The findings in a patient with known alkaptonuria are consistent with ochronosis. The term ochronosis usually refers to the bluish black discoloration of certain tissues, such as the ear cartilage and the ocular tissue, seen with alkaptonuria.
