Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Bilateral proptosis and a history of cataract surgery, intraocular lens and hyperthyroidism.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Both eye globes are egg-shaped and have a posterior bulge of the vitreous within the thin uveo-scleral layer. No native lens is seen. Superior ophthalmic veins are dilated and tortuous more prominent on the right side. Extraocular muscles thickness is upper normal limit width.

Case Discussion

Anterior segment ocular coloboma is more common than posterior segment. The posterior segment coloboma is also called chorioretinal coloboma, is usually bilateral and the patients have large egg-shaped eyes and are highly myopic, and have proptosis. This case also has a history of hyperthyroidism which justify the dilated superior ophthalmic veins and upper normal limit width of extraocular muscles.
