Ocular tear and foreign body

Presentation

Collision of an object with the left eye and sudden decreased visual acuity.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Left eye cornea and uveo-scleral tear and a dense foreign body with the metallic artifact penetrated within the anterior vitreous adjacent to the inferior margin of the lens are seen. The lens has also an ill-defined margin and relatively decreased density compatible with a partial tear. Lacrimal gland and preseptal swelling in the left side and exodeviation of both eyes are also noted.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates the concomitance of ocular tear and foreign body which has a high rate of endophthalmitis and is an ophthalmology emergency.
