Esophageal B-ring

Case contributed by Dr Henry Knipe

Presentation

Dysphagia for twelve months.

Patient Data

Age: 75
Gender: Female
Fluoroscopy

Barium swallow

Schatzki ring noted at the level of the gastro-oesophgeal junction (probable small sliding hiatus hernia) with a luminal diameter of approximately 10mm.

Case Discussion

Schatzki rings (or B-rings) are located at the gastro-esophageal junction. Quite often they are an incidental finding but if luminal narrowing is <13mm then they almost certainly at least contribute to dysphagia, especially to solids.
