Esophageal foreign body

Presented to the ED with chest pain on swallowing after swallowing a 20-cent piece. The evening before he had been playing a drinking game called "quarters" which involved bouncing a coin into the opponent's cup.

Patient Data

Age: 18 years
Gender: Male

Metal density foreign body (coin) projected over esophagus at level of T5. The coin is lodged at an oblique angle.

Case Discussion

This mid-esophageal foreign body required admission for gastroscopy.
