New onset seizures. Below developmental milestones.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female

Huge left cerebral hemisphere open schizencephaly with right sided polymicrogyria. Note also the absence of the septum pellucidum. 

Case Discussion

Schizencephaly is one form of cerebral cortical malformation.  In more than 50% of cases it is associated with other cerebral abnormalities on MRI, such as in septo-optic dysplasia.
