Optic nerve meningioma - calcified

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis possible

Patient Data

Age: Adult

CT through the orbits demonstrates a calcified mass along the posterior aspect of the left optic nerve. This lesion has been stable for a number of years and is thought to represent an optic nerve meningioma.

Case Discussion

Some lesions, if quiescent, are never biopsied due to associated morbidity and thus pathological proof is impossible to obtain. I suspect there are other possible causes for this lesion, but we will never find out.
