Presentation
Known history of demyelinating disease.
Patient Data
There is an ill-defined high T2/FLAIR signal within the proximal portion of the left optic nerve, which also demonstrates mild enhancement after contrast administration. On T2 is also possible to spot some of the supratentorial white matter demyelination lesions.
Case Discussion
This patient has a known diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and an MRI orbits was requested in the context of visual symptoms. The features are consistent with optic neuritis, a condition that has MS as the principal cause. Although not being an imaging diagnostic criterion accordingly to the McDonald criteria, the optic neuritis has been proposed to be included as one of the sites to characterize MS dissemination in space by the 2016's MAGNIMS consensus.
