Orbital floor blow-out fracture and transection of inferior rectus muscle

Presentation

Right orbit blunt trauma and right upward gaze limitation and painful eye movement.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Right orbit floor blow-out fracture with penetrated fractured bones within the middle to the distal segment of the inferior rectus muscle and muscle transection into two parts upper and lower and swelling of the muscle and entrapped lower part within the fracture gap and hemorrhage within the gap and the muscle. Blow-out fracture in right orbit medial wall with orbital fat and medial rectus muscle entrapment and nasal bones fracture are also seen.

Case Discussion

The penetration of displaced bones within the inferior rectus muscle and transection of the muscle is an uncommon finding in orbital floor blow-out fracture due to orbital blunt trauma.
