Presentation
Recurrent maxillary sinusitis. Extraction of tooth number 16.
Patient Data
There is a bony defect of the right maxillary sinus floor, opposite to the extraction site of tooth 16, where theere is a bony fragment corresponding to a retained root.
Bilateral peripheral thickening of of the maxillary sinuses mucosa.
Multiple bilateral apical protrusions of dental roots within the maxillary sinuses
Case Discussion
In this case, the patient has an anatomical variant with a surgical risk, as we see bilateral teeth roots protrusions within the maxillary sinuses; hence the bilateral sinusitis. Naturally, the extraction of one of the posterior maxillary teeth "16" was complicated with a bony defect of the maxillary sinus.
In this situation, a complete dental panel must be established, in order to avoid further complications.
