Os peroneum fracture

Right lateral foot pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Female

Irregular appearing os peroneum.


An os peroneum is identified and returns slight T2 signal intensity.  The associated segment of the peroneus longus tendon is normal. The tibialis posterior tendon is unremarkable. The bone marrow signal is normal. The medial and lateral supporting structures are intact.

Comment: Fragmentation of the os peroneum.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates the important principle that pathology can still occur within anatomical variants.
