Ovarian dysgerminoma

Presentation

Left pelvic pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
mri

Well-defined left ovarian mass measuring 60 x 50 x 45 mm of isosignal to the myometrium on T1, iso-to slight high signal on T2 with restricted diffusion and moderate heterogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences.

Normal appearance of the uterus.

Right dominant ovarian follicle (23 mm).

Case Discussion

On imaging two diagnoses were discussed: ovarian fibroma and ovarian lymphoma.

The patient underwent surgical resection of the tumor with a histopathological exam and immunohistochemistry that confirm the diagnosis of ovarian dysgerminoma.

Ovarian dysgerminomas are a type of germ cell tumor of the ovary. They are the most common malignant germ cell tumors of the ovary. They occur predominantly in young women (the majority occurring in the 2nd to 3rd decades).
