Pacemaker and retained former pacemaker wires

Case contributed by Dr Ian Bickle

Presentation

Chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Right sided pacemaker.

Leads from a former left sided pacemaker retained without the pacemaker box in the chest wall.

Heart size normal.  Lungs clear.

Case Discussion

A bit of a quirky radiograph with a whole set of retained pacemaker leads, without the box, on the left side as well as a new right sided pacemaker.

The left is usually the preferred site for an initial pacemaker.
