Presentation
Recent road traffic accident with blunt abdominal injury, secondary pancreatic trauma and pancreatic duct breach.
Patient Data
Two < 3 mm focal non distensions of the main pancreatic duct are seen in head and neck. Disruption of pancreatic parenchymal in the tail region with a 17 mm focal segment of the main pancreatic duct appearing to communicate directly (proximal and distal ends) with a large peripancreatic collection.
Common bile duct and hepatic biliary tree, gall bladder and cystic duct are normal.
Case Discussion
Pancreatic blunt trauma can result in fracture of the pancreas and secondary fistulous formation as in this case where in there is direct communication existing between the main pancreatic duct and peripancreatic collection. MRCP study is ideal for delineation of the biliary tree and documentation of extent of injury.
