Papillary thyroid carcinoma

Case contributed by Garth Kruger
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

? Mass lesion right lobe thryoid

Patient Data

Age: 64 years
Gender: Female

The lesion in the right lobe thyroid is almost isoechoic, smoothly circumscribed but without a surrounding halo. Contains no microcalcifications.

Case Discussion

The key point is it has no surrounding halo; it just blends in with the thyroid parenchyma. Red flag. Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. Mass lesions in the thyroid should have a very thin hypoechoic halo.
