Parathyroid adenoma

Preoperative assessment for gastric sleeve showed high serum Ca and PTH levels.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years old
Gender: Female

Neck CT

There is an ovoid soft tissue mass just posterior to the manubrium sterni, separable from the normal looking thyroid gland.

Nuclear medicine

Sistamibi scan

The initial image shows avid uptake of tracer into the mass seen on CT.
There is persistent uptake of tracer at the delayed images while the thyroid washed out.

Case Discussion

These findings along with the clinically relevant information provided are most consistent with parathyroid adenoma.

Surgical excision was performed.
