Patella tendon lateral femoral condyle friction syndrome

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Ballet dancer with several year history of knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Focal soft tissue edema involving the superolateral aspect of Hoffa's fat pad just inferior to the patella. There is patella alta (Insall-Salvati ratio of 1.5) and mild lateral subluxation of the patella with respect to the trochlear groove.

Case Discussion

Findings suggest patella maltracking and resultant patellar tendon lateral femoral condyle friction syndrome also known as Hoffa's fat pad impingement syndrome.
