Bedridden patient with Parkinson's is brought by relatives due to soft tissue swelling in the up and anterior thoracic region that extends to left axillary region.
Patient Data
Comparison between the proximal sternocostal heads of the pectoralis major muscles. The right one (DIR) on its normal aspects and the left one (ESQ) presenting thickened and increased echogenicity.
In the middle portion of the muscle, it is possible to observe only a few muscle fibers and a significant amount of fluid occupying its place. Deep is the pectoralis minor, preserved. Sternal head of the pectoralis identified contracted in the left axillary portion.
Case Discussion
The case illustrates a pectoralis major rupture on an old bedridden patient. Probably the lesion occurs in the musculotendinous junction, involving the sternal head.
