Presentation
Lower abdominal pain and tenderness. Status post transabdominal hysterectomy and right salpingo-oophorectomy 1 month prior.
Patient Data
Radiopaque convoluted curvilinear structure with gas foci in pelvis.
Echogenic mass with posterior acoustic shadowing in pelvis.
Pelvic collection containing gas foci and a curvilinear metallic density structure.
Case Discussion
Patient presented to the ED with lower abdominal pain for which abdominal ultrasound was carried out. The lesion was mistaken for a calcified mass in the residual ovary. Further history taking, x-ray and CT scan revealed a gossypiboma with gas foci and a radiopaque marker within the retained surgical mop.
