A well circumscribed rather rounded well defined mass is seen anterior to L5 vertebral body. It returns low signal on T1, slightly bright signal on T2, strongly bright signal on STIR and poor enhancement after contrast administration. Multiple cystic changes are seen within the lesion.
Case Discussion
Excisional biopsy of this lesion revealed benign encapsulated peripheral nerve schwannoma (neurilemmoma) which commonly arises at head and neck regions and rarely occurs at the retroperitoneal/pelvic location.
