Penetrating injury of the neck

Presentation

Stab injury of the neck , suspected vascular injury.

Patient Data

Age: 90 years
Gender: Male

Two metallic objects in the left posterior side of the neck with one piece is abutting the left vertebral artery with no injury at the time of imaging, the distance between the two pieces and the left carotid arteries about 13 mm.

Normal opacification of the carotid arteries bilaterally as well as the vertebral arteries. No extravasation or dissection at the time of imaging.

Case Discussion

The surgeon informed that images must be reviewed before any intervention and movement restriction of the neck is performed.

This case illustrates the importance of imaging in penetrating injury before surgical intervention.
