Placenta accreta

Presentation

Pregnant patient G1P0A0C0, pelvic discomfort. Previous vaginal bleeding.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Ultrasound shows a placenta in a suitable location. Loss of the retroplacental-myometrial interface. The placenta is heterogeneous, with multiple tortuous hypoechoic structures within it (“Swiss cheese” placental appearance). Doppler US demonstrates turbulent flow (placental lacunae). There is a high velocity (peak systolic velocity of 19.7 cm/s).

The fetus is morphologically normal. Gestational age of 17.5 weeks by ultrasound.

The findings correspond to a placenta accreta 1-3

The patient is nulliparous, without any previous uterine surgery or instrumentation. The placenta is in a suitable location. 

This is a rare case of placenta accreta in a patient with no risk factors 4.
