Pontine glioma

Presentation

Altered consciousness.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Male
mri

Diffuse expansion of the pons with  extention into the medulla, midbrain (more on left side) and bilateral middle cerebellar peduncles. 

Subtle blooming on gradient images , represent  internal hemorrhagic components.  

Exaggerated enhancement of the leptomeninges at basal region, along the cortical sulci and cerebellar surface. Exaggerated enhancement of the meninges is also seen at surface of visualized cervico-dorsal spinal cord.    

 

Case Discussion

Diffuse expansion of the pons with internal patchy enhancement, which extending into the medulla, midbrain (more on left side) and bilateral middle cerebellar peduncles. These most likely represent a neoplastic pathology like brainstem glioma (high grade glioma).
