Posterior hip dislocation - closed reduction

Presentation

Motor vehicle accident two weeks ago and ongoing right hip pain after a closed reduction of posterior hip dislocation.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Right-sided hip joint effusion and capsular distension.

Bone marrow edema/bruise at the femoral head anterior aspect and posterior acetabular wall.

Posterior acetabular wall fracture.

Case Discussion

Posterior hip dislocations are much more common than an anterior dislocation.

It most frequently occurs in the setting of significant trauma, given a large amount of force required.
