Presentation

Recent L5/S1 hemilaminectomy and discectomy with persistent left S1 nerve root symptoms.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Pre- and post-contrast MRI demonstrates the S1 nerve root to be surrounded by enhancing scar tissue.

Case Discussion

This is a good demonstration of the need for contrast in the post operative spine to distinguish scar from recurrent disc herniation.
