Pseudolipoma of the Glisson capsule

Case contributed by Matt A. Morgan
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right lower quadrant pain.

Patient Data

Gender: Female

These images demonstrate a well-circumscribed fat attenuation lesion at the surface of the liver.

Case Discussion

The patient had no history of malignancy and the study was otherwise negative. Given the location, shape, and attenuation of the nodule, a diagnosis of pseudolipoma of the Glisson capsule was made.

This pseudolipoma is thought to form when a colonic epiploic appendage becomes ectopically located in the hepatic capsule. It  is a developmental curiosity and has no known deleterious effect.
