Presentation

Longstanding hospitalization in intensive care unit due to attempted suicide with hypoglycemia.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

CT abdomen and pelvis

Grossly thickened colonic wall with enhancing mucosa and low attenuation edematous submucosa. There is moderate ascites with some pericolonic fat stranding.

Case Discussion

Clostridioides difficile was isolated as etiologic agent. Given the clinical context, the findings are consistent with pseudomembranous colitis.
