Pseudostricture - common hepatic duct

Case contributed by Ammar Haouimi
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right upper quadrant pain. No past history of surgery. The ultrasound was not conclusive.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

A short stricture with well-defined margins is seen at the mid-portion of the common hepatic duct (CHD) with no dilatation of the intrahepatic biliary tree. The axial T2 sequence shows that the proper hepatic artery crosses the CHD anteriorly, resulting in a pseudostricture or pseudonarrowing due to a vascular impression.

Case Discussion

Case of a benign pseudostricture of the common hepatic duct due to a vascular impression with no dilatation of the intrahepatic ducts. It should not be confused with the true bile duct strictures.
