Pulmonary arterial aneurysm

Presentation

The patient came complaining of chest pain and tightness and was referred from a cardiologist as he assumed that aortic aneurysm is suspected by echocardiography.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
ct

On scout view: left hilar opacity not silhouetting the aorta or heart and make an obtuse angle with lung, suggestive of mediastinal origin.

On pulmonary angiogram:

  • The left main pulmonary artery shows aneurysmal dilatation with no filling defect, in keeping with the pulmonary arterial aneurysm.
  • Multiple filling defects are seen in the segmental arteries of a right lower lung lobe, in keeping with pulmonary embolism.
  • The main pulmonary trunk and right main pulmonary arteries are normal in diameter.
  • The aorta shows few calcified atheromas with no aneurysmal dilatation.
