Pulmonary cryptococcosis

Presentation

Patient with long-standing dyspnea, cough and fatigue.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
ct

Widespread ground glass nodules, some with reverse halo, some with a central solid component and a single nodule in the right upper lobe has central cavitation.

No lymphadenopathy or effusions.

Case Discussion

Following inconclusive bronchoscopy the patient underwent thoracotomy and biopsy which showed a budding yeast suggestive of Cryptococcus neoformans. There were no malignant cells. Regression of lesions occurred after five months of antifungal treatment.
