Radiation induced pulmonary fibrosis

Presentation

Prior mediation radiotherapy for lymphoma. Cough. Possible lower respiratory tract infection.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years

Volume loss in both upper lobes.

Bilateral paramediastial streaky linear appearance in a fan-like distribution which is almost symmetrical in nature consistent with scarring.

No consolidation.

Heart size normal.

Case Discussion

The appearances and clinical history are entirely in keeping with radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis several years following medically indicated radiotherapy to the mediastinum.
