Presentation
Palpable painless lump of abdominal wall.
Patient Data
CT of the abdomen and pelvis demonstrates a solid lesion in the middle portion of the right rectus abdominis muscle with delayed enhancement. No abdominal, pelvic or inguinal lymphadenopathy.
Simple hepatic cyst noted.
Other organs are unremarkable.
Rectus abdominis muscle mass (red arrow) best seen in the delayed phase.
Case Discussion
The patient does not have any other pathology of the lungs (not shown here), abdomen or pelvis. So this mass has been resected. The diagnosis of desmoid tumor was confirmed histologically.
Desmoid tumor is benign which has a propensity for local invasion (aggressive type) and recurrence after resection, but does not metastasize. One of the commonest locations is the anterior abdominal wall.
