Retained gadolinium in the brain

Patient in a long-term follow-up for a low-grade glioma. He has been routinely submitted to frequent MRI scans for 8 years.

Age: 30-year-old

Note the hyperintense T1 signal in bilateral dentate nucleus. 

Case Discussion

Recent studies have linked an abnormal T1 shortening in the globus pallidus and the dentate nuclei in patients who had undergone repeated prior administration of gadolinium. However, it is still unclear if there are any clinical significance, if any, of this observation 1.
