Right middle lobe collapse

Headache, fever.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Right middle lobe collapse. Patchy right lower lobe airspace opacity with air bronchograms in keeping with infectious change. 


Lateral projection confirms RML collapse. 

Case Discussion

  • right middle lobe collapse can be difficult to pick on a frontal projection only
  • in young patients, the most common cause would be a sputum plug
