Right shoulder septic arthritis

Presentation

Hyperglycemia and fevers. Right shoulder pain after twisting. Suspected fracture or dislocation.

Patient Data

Age: 74
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is glenoid humeral joint malalignment with inferior displacement of the humeral head. No fracture.

ultrasound

Under ultrasound guidance a 19 gauge needle was inserted into the right glenohumeral joint and 10 ml of thick purulent and blood stained material was aspirated.

MICROSCOPY CELL COUNT: Leukocyte 15200 x10^6/L; Erythrocyte 3000 x10^6/L.

GRAM STAIN: Leukocytes +++ Gram positive cocci +
