Presentation
Shoulder pain
Patient Data
Low-intensity foci centered on the supraspinatus-infraspinatus transition zone, compatible with calcification extending into the subacromial bursa with associated bursal effusion and soft tissue edema.
Anterior to mid supraspinatus footplate partial-thickness partial surface articular sided tear. The remaining rotator cuff is intact.
Minor degenerative change of the acromioclavicular joint.
Case Discussion
Typical appearances of rotator cuff calcific tendinitis, which has extended into the subacromial bursa causing bursitis. Calcific tendinitis is typically self-limiting condition and some advocate a subacromial bursal injection to aid in symptom relief although, given the volume, barbotage could be considered as a treatment option.
